The name says it all: Smart energy management 

Smart meters are the foundation for the smart grid of the future. They enable critical technologies such as distributed renewable energy generation, e-mobility and essential load distribution. The Electricity Directive in the Third Energy Package of the EU supports the introduction of “intelligent metering systems” – smart meters – for all consumers. Nevertheless, numerous business processes of energy suppliers and grid operators are still managed manually, making them correspondingly cost-intensive. A radical transformation is therefore under way in the energy sector, driven by the introduction of smart meters and enabling the digitalization of all manner of business processes.

One of the key components of digitalizing these business processes is the K-Businesscom SEM suite, which serves as a central data hub for receiving, processing and sharing data from diverse systems (billing, SAP, customer portals, smart meters, etc.).

The SEM suite was developed by K-Businesscom for remote reading and configuration of all digital electricity, gas, water and heating/cooling meters, regardless of manufacturer, type or communication technology. More than 250,000 smart meters are already connected to the SEM suite. When fully rolled out, approximately 35 percent of all smart meters installed in Austria will be managed in the SEM suite.

The meter data received in the SEM suite is checked for plausibility, saved in a managed history and prepared for sharing with subordinate systems (e.g. billing and customer portals). The modular architecture permits flexible integration of the various SEM systems:

SEM is the central management tool for smart meter environments to monitor systems and business processes, identify problems and resolve them quickly. Grid operators profit from the introduction of smart metering primarily through efficiency gains in grid operations, especially when it comes to time-consuming processes such as reading, billing, moves and the startup and shutdown of grid systems. The additionally available data in the low-voltage grid also serves as the basis for expanded use of alternative energy carriers and helps ensure stable grid operations.
